Welcome to the fifth installment of Raise Green Investor of the Month! In these short vignettes we’ll share the story of investors like you, who are anxious about climate change and social injustice and are unwilling to wait for the tides of change to create progress. These investors are action-minded and impatient with the status quo, and have turned to impact investing to empower meaningful change. With as little as $100, you can support the climate entrepreneurs and leaders who are building a better tomorrow, today.
John Knox worked in the public school system in California for over 25 years, spending most of that time as a devoted middle school science teacher. He co-founded an innovative back-to-nature program, emphasizing ecosystems, interdependence, and how nature works. He believes that adults have a moral duty to leave behind to all of our children and all of our fellow species a healthy and habitable planet. In his view, no issue is more vital than addressing climate change. Therefore, his main mission currently is working as an advocate and activist for clean energy and sustainability. He is an avid hiker, birder, guitarplayer, and traveler.
John opened a Raise Green investment account, and made his initial investment in Connecticut Green Bank, Green Liberty Notes. He also was impressed with the mission of WeSolar, Inc., and invested. He hopes these investments will help accelerate green energy adoption in their respective communities, and looks forward to exploring more investment opportunities with Raise Green. John believes it is no longer sufficient to donate to our favorite environmental groups, and expect the world to change on the scale it needs to. Instead, he says we need to invest in supporting green, sustainable activities that promise to transform the way we do business, generate power, and transport products and people. Protecting our planet’s fragile life support system should be our number one priority, according to John.
